Affection Roadblocks
Removing the Setbacks in Love
Connecting deeply with others can be challenging when your mind is cluttered with thoughts that create barriers. One of the most detrimental notions is believing that we are all inherently individualistic.
This belief in detachment often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. A fragmented mindset leads to behaviors that reinforce solitary lifestyles. Instead of warmly reaching out, you might hold back. Instead of offering a hug, you might settle for a handshake. Instead of initiating a conversation, you might wait for the other person to make the first move.
It’s important to recognize that the idea of everyone being separate individuals is an unproven assumption. When you dream, do you assume that the characters in your dream are separate from you? While you might think so while sleeping, upon waking, you realize they are merely projections of your mind. They exist entirely within you, not apart from you.
What if you applied that same mindset to your waking reality?
There’s no rule that demands you believe everyone is separate from you. Something magical happens when you start to perceive others as part of yourself, much like the dream characters. Suddenly, there are no strangers, no insignificant individuals in your reality. Since everyone is a part of you, everyone has something to teach you. Loving another person becomes synonymous with loving a part of yourself.
Since all parts of you deserve love, no human is undeserving of affection. Ultimately, loving others and loving yourself are one and the same.
