Chargebacks are disputes over charges between customers and companies, often involving unauthorized or fraudulent transactions. They can lead to payment and inventory loss, significant fees, and damage to merchant reputations.

A chargeback is a dispute over a charge, usually an unauthorized or fraudulent one, between the customer and the company. The merchant is required to refund the entire amount, including any credit card fees. This amount is automatically deducted from the merchant's account.
There are three main issues concerning chargebacks for merchants:
- They lose the payment and also the inventory if it was sent.
- The fees associated with each chargeback range between $15 and $25.
- Chargebacks reflect poorly on the merchant and can result in losing the merchant account. Merchant services are quite picky; they do not just award accounts to anyone.
